Originally my intention was to have a totally independent set-oriented
query-kernel and building OQL, SODA, XML front-ends for it. However, if 1.
comes true then 3. seems to be a great option.

Anyway, I don't know much about query-kernel/API/lang design and
implementation. Are there more experienced people here, who may comment on the
proposed ideas?
